{"id":141,"date":"2003-11-19T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2003-11-19T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dreamdawn.com\/sh\/post_view.php?index=141"},"modified":"2003-11-19T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2003-11-19T08:00:00","slug":"the-video-game-stores-are-responsible-for-our-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horror.dreamdawn.com\/?p=141","title":{"rendered":"The Video Game Stores are Responsible for Our Children!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This isn&#8217;t explicitly horror-related, but I feel that it is worthy of a post.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/\">The Daily Herald<\/a>, an Everett, Wash. newspaper, is carrying a feature titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/Stories\/03\/11\/18\/17748407.cfm\">&#8220;Violent video games are training children to kill.&#8221;<\/a>  The article asserts (without the back up of any sort of source information) that games use &#8220;simulation techniques&#8221; to train children to dehumanize people and become ruthless killers.  The author even draws a link between games and the recently-convicted serial killer Gary Ridgway.  The article makes no attempt to convey the controversy surrounding game violence, and it presents the author&#8217;s opinions as fact.  Please write the <a href=\"mailto:bsjf@gte.net\">author<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/about\/staff\/index.cfm\">one of the editors<\/a> about the article&#8217;s disgusting lack of journalistic integrity.  Please keep your comments civil and polite&#8211;your argument will be much more convincing that way too.<\/p>\n<p>If you need some sources to refute the authors claim that it is a &#8220;fact&#8221; that &#8220;research shows that playing violent video games increases children&#8217;s violent thoughts and aggressive behaviors,&#8221; try <a href=\"http:\/\/aafp.org\/afp\/20020401\/tips\/1.html\">The American Academy of Family Physicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll post my own message to the features editor shortly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This isn&#8217;t explicitly horror-related, but I feel that it is worthy of a post.
