  1. The ending is amazing. Everything ties in so well and you realize there’s so much more symbolism than you see at first glance. Glad you enjoyed it. My faith is restored!

  2. I’m assuming you just finished it. Yeah. The ending is freakin awesome. Probably the greatest game ending ever. I absolutely loved this game.

  3. Amen.
When starting over, fill in the psychology test with the answers opposite to what you did the first time. That really adds replay value. ^

  4. The ending was excellent, but I’m not so sure about the rest of the game. I’d probably give it a “B” overall.

Still drastically better than any Silent Hill since the 3rd one.

  5. Well it makes sense for people who like SH2 to like SH:SM, since if you ask me both have terrible gameplay, bland atmosphere and are only interesting for storytelling.

If you don’t count SH:4, they’re my 2 least favourite ones. Not saying I didn’t like them though.

  6. Yeah!!! The story, the atmosphere and the ending ROCKED!

Sure, it was quite a short game, but it had me thinking about it long after I finished it.

  7. The game overall is not bad, except I don’t count it as a Silent Hill game, since it gives you another type of experience. My favorite SH list goes like that:
    SH1, SH4, SH3, SH2 (sorry, didn’t liked it that much), SH:0…SH:H. SH:SM is good, but just don’t go together with other SH’s.

  8. God dammit! The ending was ruined for me by a roommate once, and I still haven’t gotten around to playing the game because of this…

Maybe I could get some people to respond to this relevant post:

I saw “Psycho”, “The Sixth Sense” and “The Crying Game” knowing their twists in advance still loved them, because they were all excellent enough to stand on their own even without the great twists. Is Silent Hill: Shattered Memories that kind of excellent? (I’m praying the answer is yes, but I want people to be honest.)

I totally agree with the consensus about this game.It really sticks with you after the end credits roll. The chase sequences were annoying after the initial novelty wore off( although I did love those moments where you expose some freaky situations when taking pics of frozen humans). I didn’t see the finale coming and it totally resonated with me at an emotional level. That is probably the highest praise I can give to any game really:).

  10. Also, I’m very curious as to what ending you received, what shape they took, and all that. Is that all going to be in the review?

  11. After I realized there was no danger while exploring, the fear factor was shot down instantly. Then we just run, run, and run some more. God forbid one of those things jumps on you. most frustrating game element ever…

  12. I got the ‘good’ ending and teared up a little at the ‘you dont need me’ style ending, very well done and i agree completely, best since 2.

The whole final act of the game is in fact inspired and actually based on the climax of the novel “Shutter Island”, and the developers had no idea Scorsese was working on the film adaptation at the same time!

I loved both the film, and this, my fav Silent Hill game! That “swim to the lighthouse to find the shocking truth!” twist never gets old anyway.

I thought that was a nice bit of trivia for you guys!

  14. After your gameplay impressions I was worried your overall opinion of the game would be lukewarm or negative. Any of the annoyances with the game design are overshadowed by the good story and great ending.

  15. It is a good game.
Remembering all of the frustrating chase sequences kinda makes you wish they weren’t in the game at all because the rest of the game is so good.
If they would have made it harder to be killed or grabbed then it would have been much better. But maybe the frustrating intensity actually enhanced the delicate melodramatic parts of the game.

  16. See you liked the ending! 😀 I’ll have to concede that the ending is amazing, and almost saves the rest of the game in my eyes.

But, I’ll stop complaining since plenty of others did seem to enjoy it. 😛

The Main problem with SH2 is that fans consider this game to be THE BEST ’cause it was the first in the series to introduce a big piece of innovation. But, if we don’t think about that, we could easily understand that Silent Hill 1 is THE TRULY MASTERPIECE in the series, then Silent Hill 3 is the game that closes the story and it’s relevant to. Silent Hill 2 is a great game, but in my case, i could predict the ending, so i found that its plot was quite silly. Of course, i like it, the story was great, but it wasn’t as deep as Silent Hill 1,3 and 4 stories…
Silent Hill 2 was the game with the best concept art and monsters design.

I think Shattered Memories should be treated as a separated entity. That game is AMAZING! but it’s not a Silent Hill.

Innovation is great, but it’s not a prerequisite for quality. Fans don’t love SH2 because it started a trend – in fact if you look around you’ll see a lot of people who are sick of the trend, and want a change. What makes SH2 the best game in the series, hands down, is its execution. The way the art direction, sound design, movement, and pacing work together to show, rather than tell, a story is super-classy. If you were able to decipher the imagery and dramatic beats and predict the ending, great. It’s not a Shyamalan movie.

  19. I’d still really like to read your own review of the game. To be quite frank, I don’t really trust what your friend Casey has to say. :/

  20. Truly a great game. The Nightmare chases were indeed frustrating to begin with but once you’ve mastered the wii-mote guestures and learned how to navigate it adds a real element of fear and dread to the game.

There were a couple of moments of annoyance where I couldn’t figure out what the game wanted from me (i.e. the observatory and gumball puzzles, plus the room with no doors towards the end), but all in all they well and truly pulled it out of the bag.

Back to the chase sequences, they work well in the context of the game as I always found combat fairly redundant in Silent Hill. Having said that the monsters were missed: both their creative element and fear factor from their very presence. Then again their absense adds to the impact of the Nightmare.

Once I complete Forbidden Siren I will return to SH:SM for the next ending.
